Yup, we are just one year away from the primaries, Kate Nash reminds us.
It seems like just yesterday that we were talking about Ben Ray Lujan taking on Don Wiviott and Harry Teague’s narrow victory over Bill McCamley.
But that was way back in last June.
Nash writes, “As for next week’s announcement, well who knows. Anyone seen Val Kilmer recently?”

A piece of good news …
Plastic bags are a scourge on the globe. From the plastic ocean in the Pacific, to the stomachs of choked birds, to the fences of highways, the billions of annual bags are infrequently reused or recycled and often don’t even make it into the dump.
Facing increasing levels of pollution on the Anacostia River, with a high percentage of collected trash being a rainbow of colors of plastic bags, the Washington, DC, City Council voted earlier today to institute a five-cent fee for bags to help drive reduced use and, as well, to help raise funds for the cleaning of the Anacostia River.

As usual, my friend Karen Duncan (aka, “Anonymous is a Woman”) comes through with articulate, eloquent, thoughtful diary, this one an endorsment of Mike Signer for Lieutenant Governor. I particularly liked this part, but definitely read the entire thing:
In this campaign, Wagner has staked out her position as a solid, pro-business moderate in the tradition of Mark Warner and Tim Kaine. There is, however, another tradition within Democratic politics, and that is the progressive and populist tradition of Jim Webb. And that is the wing of the party where you will find Mike Signer, which is why he is my choice.
But this is not a hard left ideological position without regard to the candidate’s other qualifications. Far from it. Mike also is enormously gifted and intelligent. And he too served in the Warner administration as Warner’s former deputy counselor.
My reasoning exactly, but of course better expressed by Karen than I ever could.
Go Mike!
